From Bard to Gemini

On February 8th, 2024, Google unveiled a bold shift in its AI strategy, rebranding its conversational AI Bard as Gemini. This move signifies a broader consolidation of Google’s AI services under the “Gemini” umbrella, including Duet AI in Workspace and Google Cloud. However, the bigger news arrived in the form of Gemini Advanced, a paid tier powered by the company’s most powerful AI model yet, Gemini Ultra 1.0.

From Bard to Gemini:

Bard was launched in December 2022 as an open-access chatbot powered by the Gemini family of models. The rebranding streamlines Google’s messaging, presenting Gemini as a unified AI brand across various products and services. Users familiar with Bard won’t experience significant changes in functionality at this stage.

Introducing Gemini Advanced:

  • This paid tier unlocks the capabilities of Gemini Ultra 1.0, touted as Google’s most advanced AI model to date.
  • Ultra 1.0 boasts greater capacity for complex tasks, nuanced creative writing, and in-depth research compared to the free, “Pro” model powering the standard Gemini experience.
  • Gemini Advanced includes a 2-month free trial, followed by a monthly subscription of $19.99 in the US, alongside 2TB of Google One storage and other premium benefits.

Additionally, in the upcoming months, Gemini Advanced will continue to grow with new and exclusive features including enhanced coding capabilities and expanded multi-modal capabilities, in addition to the capacity to upload and more thoroughly analyze files, documents, data, and more. The premium package- Gemini Advanced is accessible in more than 150 nations and territories. The Ultra 1.0 model is available and optimized for English, but it can answer questions in other languages that Gemini is available in.
